Drive-by Shooting in Hillsdale
"Flint man" responsible!
Flint man charged in 2021 shooting near city library. So reports the Hillsdale Daily News in the most bored voice possible. A shooting, you say? Yawn! Perhaps you’d like to pick some lint out of your bellybutton instead of reading more?
Not so fast. Shootings are rare in Hillsdale. In fact, violent crimes are so uncommon here that the whole county can go years without a single murder. So when I read the article title I was more than a little intrigued. I live only a few blocks from where this shooting (no one was hit, thankfully) took place and I confess I don’t particularly like the idea of dying in a hail of gunfire if it can be avoided. So I did some digging.
The college newspaper, the Hillsdale Collegian, provided much better coverage. It actually included a photo of the “Flint man.” The “professional” journalists at the Hillsdale Daily News couldn’t be bothered with such things! I appreciate the extra effort from the undergrads. Their ability to gather basic details turned ups something interesting: the gunman, Jeremiah Da Michael Broady (this is his real name), is Black.
Which is odd because Hillsdale is 95% White. It’s also absolutely covered in guns. In 2017 nearly 10% of the adult population in the county owned a concealed firearm permit. And that percentage has only skyrocketed during COVID and the BLM riots.
So how is it that the only attempted murder in the city that I’ve heard of in years was committed by a Black male between the ages 18 and 35 who doesn’t even live here? What are the odds of that happening?
Quite good, it would seem.
All the talk of gun violence, racism, and systemic oppression in this country is nothing more than an attempt by liberals to ignore basic facts about reality. Turns out that in most places in America there is zero connection between widespread firearms ownership and gun violence. Nearly 50% of American counties (like Hillsdale) see zero murders in a given year. Just 2% contain more than half of all murders. I’ll leave it to you to guess the demographics of the two categories.
Yep, the 2% of counties are filled with DEMOCRATS!! Yes of course. The real racists strike again.
