One thing you bring up that is worth further expansion is the connection our current geopolitical and even domestic political problems stem from the flawed collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Putin infamously refers to it as the greatest geopolitical disaster of the 20th century. But it certainly removed any perceived competitor to liberalism, and ingrained arrogant neoliberal policy as the cure-all for all social, political, and economic problems. That imbalance over time has warped minds and steered policy with its lies.
"If we should have been involved in that conflict at all, it was to put down Lenin and his cronies in the Soviet Union. Communism, with its campaign for global revolution, was an explicit enemy of all civilized powers."
I don't see how you can oppose the Cold War, either the old one or the new one, by buying into all the same Cold War tropes. The countries Lenin intervened in didn't have free governments, they were under British or French colonialism. And Stalin even went so far as ending the Comintern in the 1940s, for all the good that did him.
P.S., OT: could you please restack what you wrinte on other platform? I miss a lot of what you write in other place (e.g. the linked AG article of 2023). Thank you.
He follows Richard Banania, David "Stein" and Pedro Gonzales: why do you waste your time with a sheep-dipped Bushite? It's not worth it, he probably voted Harris out of spite for MAGA.
Lol what you are depends on what you are, not what you say, Bushite. Maybe this is why you are plagiarizing "Stein" instead of understanding why you lost in 2024.
One of the framers of the constitution was James Monroe, as president he saw the immediate self interest of the USA as that which inhabited the western hemisphere. That and other reasons helped to create (loosely) the Monroe Doctrine. All doctrine is fallible, but the concept of a geographical sphere of “influence” made sense. There were and are still today vast natural resources from the top of the Hudson Bay to the tip of Tierra del Fuego. Land bridges are easily built and maintained. Sea lanes far more transitory and difficult to maintain and keep free of trouble. Pirates and rebels firing shore based drones and low cost rockets at a merchant and military fleet to good effect; a US Navy in complete disarray with some 150 admirals and only 250 ships at maximum. The admiral with his 10,000 mile screw driver detail supervising the bridge on a US naval vessel critical to supporting a carrier task force couldn’t stop incompetence on the bridge from running the ship aground.
We need to pull back, America need look to only it’s own interests. We have had for 249 years a small fighting force capable of carrying out forceful entry missions, catastrophic weather or natural disasters relief operations and full scale peer foe to peer foe fights. Yet, our Congress and DOD have allowed two mid wit four star US Marine Corps generals to destroy that very small, best bang for the buck force to a nothing. If Musk and Ramaswamy conclude (and may well they might) that the Marine Corps is useless as is, it will be gone and no amount of the general public wishing it stay will change their efforts eliminate waste, fraud and abuse. This is top of the rot at the DOD. But what the heck, let’s listen to that shrill little capon of a Senator Lindsey Graham talk all about going to war with everyone. Or better to that Yale talking head of great repute at least in his own mind, John Bolton tell us we stupid to believe that Putin would exercise his will to use nuclear weapons. “He’s bluffing” says John the dimwit. What a great idea call the bluff of the people who invented Russian Roulette. This was a great and thoughtful peace of writing today. Too bad it can’t be disseminated across the many layers of government that inhabit the troll world of foggy bottom AKA Washington, DC. Keep up the great work!!
Our government has scaled itself to run the whole world because that is in its interest, not ours. It never has been.
Great article as always.

This is the way. Time is short.
Excellent thoughts, thank you. Great analysis
We need our people in OSD and other political appointments to enact these strategies.

tl;dr: bring back teh Treaties of Westphalia.

If we build a strong and self-sufficient economy nation, the world will come to us.
Trump is not non interventionist
He fought a war with Isis
He kept troops in Afghanistan
He launched an operation on the houthis in Yemen
He even armed Ukraine.
Trump is not out for any political position.
He is only out for himself
You sure?
He picked Marco Rubio
He pledged to assist Israel
all those “non interventionist” advisors are just restrained interventionist.
Don’t Kidd yourself
Well I’d be shocked and saddened if he was worse than the previous administration but time will tell
Trump was those things but the people around him that he’s listening to now are non-interventionist
He follows Richard Banania, David "Stein" and Pedro Gonzales: why do you waste your time with a sheep-dipped Bushite? It's not worth it, he probably voted Harris out of spite for MAGA.
Why do you waste your time making other people’s life hell through name calling and demeaning?
If being recognized makes your life hell, your skin is not deep enough and you should avoid public discussions, Bushite.
What makes me a Bushite?
You’re pushing terms on people without asking their positions. Maybe this is why Trump lost 2020.

No reply?
Trump still has neo conservatives as advisors. Don’t kid yourself.
