I don't think the left-wing passion for enforcing the obscure is a bug though, it seems to be a feature. They seem to enjoy watching innocents get slaughtered like this guy, and LaVoy Finicum, as an example.
The left would punish uttering the phrase 'illegal alien' with greater sanction than the illegal alien.
For “them” he did need to die. Just like the others you described. Their religion requires it.

They’re also keeping all the murderers, rapists, and monsters alive in jail for later when they need them. It’s been done before. Slow leaking them out to do their work. All under the guise of compassion and their fake justice, which is not justice at all.
Yeah he didn't need to be arrested he could've just been ignored. It's a real mistake by the government because it just enrages a lot of people without handing them any strategic value.
