The real real core of what the statutes the left destroys represent is the white man in general, and all of his accomplishments. The left trying to say that the need to take down these statutes is because of the confederacy is a mask for their ultimate aim of toppling the evil white oppressor and replacing him. Every time I see a statue torn down I see it as their warning for what they want to do to me and my family.

They’ll destroy the Lincoln Memorial eventually.

My ancestors fought for the Union but I have no problems with the men they fought. I do have a problem with the left

Very well written and well put. Certainly we can see that the modern left has no interest in co-existence or compromise with those that share their obsessions.

Beyond DIE and Covid, we also see this with environmentalism and the drive for “zero net carbon”, which Americans have so far avoided but is ramping into overdrive in Canada and the EU. (Just reducing emissions is not enough - we must eliminate them, no matter the human cost.)

Even in Canada, people have had enough of Trudeau and the economic destruction, but still the courts and bureaucracy is a formidable barrier to a return to common sense. We also see the drive to import vast numbers of immigrants as part of the left’s drive for allies in the upcoming turmoil.

Reunification was a strong theme in the 1930s. Composers wrote medleys of Dixie and Yankee Doodle. Radio features emphasized that Lee hated slavery and Grant loved slavery. Lee was defending his NEIGHBORS against a foreign power, not defending slavery. GW Carver was doing the same thing from a different angle.

All of this spirit disappeared after FDR died. Deepstate began its policy of universal dividing, breaking up society in every possiblel way. Every year Deepstate invents a new way to divide us.

As a Southerner whose great-grandparents actually fought in the Civil War, this is, indeed, heart-rending. But it is, as you clearly point out, another example of the moral extremism that is running rampant in this once great country. When the final judgment day does come, many in this camp will have much for which to account, as will we all, but the consequences will be on a different level.

This is a great essay. Your other piece on why we should have absolutely no business being involved in the Israel-Palestine nastiness is astoundingly good. I wish other so-called "conservatives" had half the sense you evidently do.

It's becoming pretty obvious that our Progressive Leftists are spiritual successors to the Nazis, the Khmer Rouge, and the Interahamwe. If they continue on their current trajectory, it's only a matter of time until they start doing pogroms.

Let them assuage their collective inferiority complex by tearing down statues. Our heroes are daily born; they will never erase us.
