The left trying to say that the need to take down these statutes is because of the confederacy is a mask for their ultimate aim of toppling the evil white oppressor and replacing him. As a Southerner whose great-grandparents actually fought in the Civil War, this is, indeed, heart-rending. But it is, as you clearly point out, another example of the moral extremism that is running rampant in this once great country. When the final judgment day does come, many in this camp will have much for which to account, as will we all, but the consequences will be on a different level.
