“Twice a year I receive a letter from the city where I live with a tax bill based on their estimation of the value of my property”

Is it really individual property if it is perpetually taxed? More like a penalty for ownership, or a “protection” fee from a benevolent and gracious government staffed by fellow citizens.

Good point. Excise and sale taxes should be the only taxes at the state level.

Well said. I don’t consider it a coincidence that the modern IRS took its form within a decade of the coalescing of local gangs into an international criminal syndicate (thanks to the fiasco of prohibition-another “brilliant”progressive social engineering project). The methods they used for their operation are eerily similar to the tactics our government began using in earnest by the 1940s. Head scratching, to say the least.

Well written and informative! One of many examples that in my opinion suggest that we should revert to the USA's old federal revenue system by abolishing the income tax entirely and returning to almost exclusively* funding the federal government through tariffs :)

*Much of its funding came from the US territories, but that funding doesn't count because it was funding raised within each territory that was only for that territory, the territories were built to be financially self sufficient and not require any money from the states to or the citizens
